Now, this was not an independent idea. It was a collaborative effort with some friends at work.
The Creamatorium. It's an ice cream parlor housed in a former funeral home. They keep their ice cream in the corpse cooler, and give all the flavors morbid names. I think it's the best idea ever. And I don't have the resources to make it a real thing, so it's going in my vampire story. I'm not sure the role it's going to play as of yet, but maybe it’s run by the local vampire den (or whatever you call a group of vampires. A colony? A wake?1 A warren?).
A quick google search tells me that the Creamatorium is not a new idea, and other people have thought of this. I didn't look into it too much, as I don't want it sullying my ideas. I don’t want to steal anything from anyone, but if I happen to come up with something similar, well, that's all right.
You know, I've always been notoriously bad at giving characters day jobs. I mean, when you're on the verge of discovering an interdimensional portal or whatever, you don't really want, "and then she went to work for eight hours, answering phones and filing files, with all of these people who don't matter at all." That's boring. And pointless. But maybe, just maybe, if I can set some of the relevant action in the workplace, we can reach some kind of equilibrium. The people there can matter. And these characters can have whole lives. Maybe.
But more importantly, I have to come up with a bunch of ice cream flavors. Should they have names like Cherry Manson and Fudge Ripper? Should there be a strawberry swirl called Exsanguination and a black licorice called Electrocution? I don't know. It’s been said that there should be skull shaped sprinkles, and I'm on board with that.
And on top of all that, I still have to figure out what the story itself is about. Aside from vampires and ice cream. But that's a problem for Future Me.
1 A wake is a group of feeding vultures, by the way.↩
Just because something has been done does not mean it has been done by you look at how many times people do Shakespeare because it is a good idea so put your spin on the creamatorium before you get to far into reading other and make it your own . I want to read the mad version of the creamatorium please thank you.
