It's been a while. I know. I've been meaning to write this for months, but, well, you know how it goes. All of a sudden it's July and you haven't posted all year.
So, a few things. Number one, National Novel Writing Month
is no more. I'm not going to get into the hows and whys, but basically the
whole organization has collapsed. So there's no more official, organized,
global novel writing event in November. That being said, they hardly had a
patent on the concept of writing a lot in a short amount of time. Anyone can do
it.
Number two, because of number one, I intend to start doing what I call the "30 Day 50K" which is basically the same goal that NaNoWriMo was. 50,000 words in 30 days (or perhaps 31 days, sometimes). It may take place in November, it may not. The whole purpose of the challenge is to get myself to write. Giving myself a goal and a deadline has, historically, done the trick. There's no longer an external force telling me to do it, but I'm going to try to do it anyway. And I'm telling you all about it, so that the pressure of public shame will make me do it. I'm considering October, because A) an extra bonus day, and B) I have some time off then. We shall see.
In the meantime, I've been muddling through some revisions.
Organizing nine years of notes has been a project in itself. But I think I have
them all arranged in a way that's actually useful. We'll see, I guess.
If you're hoping for some actual finished writing after all
this… I have been dabbling in flash fiction (very short stories, usually under
1,500 words) the past couple of years, and I have added some to my Stories
page. They are very short.
That's all, for now. I'm off to make some kind of a word
count tracking spreadsheet.
