Liquid Nonsense

Okay, guys… I'm writing this Monday night. It was my first day at a new job, which required me to get up at four AM. Also I've had some wine. Not a lot. Like one glass. And some I drank out of the bottle. For… research purposes. So I don't know what we're going to end up with here.

The story is… well, it's still a story-shaped void. Which I'm picturing as house shaped. That's wrong.

I'm still trying to name my characters. The main dude keeps trying to introduce himself as Sebastian and I keep trying to stop him. We'll see who backs down first. It'll probably be me. I'm a wimp. I have a feeling I'm going to have a bunch of placeholder names in this one. Or I'll just name them all Steve. Even the girls. Especially the girls.

I keep looking over at my mostly empty wine glass and thinking I should refill it. And then immediately thinking I should definitely not do that.

Anyway, where was I…

I don't think you want to hear about how I still don't know what the hell I'm doing. You want to hear something fun, probably. So there's a novelist in the story. One Doug Patterson. He writes romance under the name of Charity Marlowe. He's in this quaint little inn on this island because his upcoming novel is set in a quaint little inn on an island. I wish I could write this story in a quaint little inn, on an island not because I need a vacation, but because I want to be that infinite mirrors thing. That has to have a name. A fancy one. Hang on… I've looked it up. It's… the infinity mirror effect. That was a letdown.

Anyway, I don't know what role the novelist will play in the story other than get in the way and painstakingly describe windows or whatever. Maybe I'll murder him too. That usually works out for me.

You know, I'd like to write a story sometime that would require audience participation. Like, readers would vote people off the page, so to speak, and I'd kill off whoever had the most votes that week. That would be fun. Wouldn't that be fun? But that's not this story. I'll kill whoever I want in this story. Even the main character. Especially the main character.

More than likely I'm going to start April with pretty much no idea what I'm doing, and hope a story comes out of it. It wouldn't be the first time. But I have five more days to create all my characters and draft up a plot outline. No problem.

I'll see you all Friday.

  1. An audience participation/collaboration would be fun. You could do voting or some "Mad" libs...
I've tried to Hemingway through drink-writing but my spell check quickly begins to despise me.

  2. With all the killing going on, I think you should check out my blog post on tragedy... hahaha. And now I want a glass of wine.

    1. I read your post on tragedy, very interesting. Even with all the murdering I do, I've never actually tried a proper tragedy. Maybe I should...
